Sometimes the people you need to divorce are your friends. The ones who keep getting you tangled up in the same messes over and over, who always seem to be standing nearby when your life goes sideways. I know that is a hard thing to say out loud about men you care about. Say it anyway, at least to yourself.
I genuinely believe we are only one person away. One meeting, one connection removed from the kind of life and happiness you can barely imagine from where you are sitting right now. The right man entering your life can change its entire trajectory. So can the wrong one staying in it.
Look at the Evidence
So as you meet people, the ones you already know and the ones you do not, pay attention. Look at what they have actually demonstrated in their past and what they are showing you right now, not what they say they are going to do someday. Then hold that evidence up against what you say you actually want for your life. If they have not grown a little further down the road than you have, they may not be good for you to follow. You do not take directions from a man who is more lost than you are.
I have felt the difference in my own life every single time I have been selective about who gets my time. The people around you are doing one of two things at all times. Helping you level up, or quietly keeping you stuck. There is not much in between, and the ones keeping you stuck rarely look like enemies. They look like comfort.
You Become What They Are
Here is the hard law of it. You become what they are. Their habits become your habits. Their standards become your ceiling. Their excuses start sounding reasonable coming out of your own mouth, until one day you cannot tell which beliefs were ever yours to begin with. Nobody drifts upward by accident. You drift toward the average of the men you spend your time with.
So choose wisely, brother. Audit your circle the way you would audit anything else that is shaping your future, honestly and without sentiment. This is not about being cold or cutting people off cruelly. It is about being intentional with the one resource you can never get back. Spend your time with men who are climbing, and you will climb. It really is that simple, and that important.
